This print started with a pen sketch I did ‘en plein air’ sitting in the shade (it was a very hot day) in the Alpine Garden in Schloss Belvedere in Vienna. This was the World’s first alpine garden and it was full of great textures and colours.
I used the pen sketch to make a positive for screen printing, and printed a dark, turquoise green over the coloured background. The background is actually a mono-print, made by applying wax pastel and acrylic direct onto the screen. I also applied some talcum powder to the paper to give texture to the path.
So in effect, this is a ‘varied edition’, as each colour layer is actually unique, though recognisable as the same image. There are 10 copies in the edition.
The print area is 25cm x 25cm and is printed on 300 gsm Snowdon cartridge paper.
