Lines

A walk today on Otley Chevin checking out one of the locations that JMW Turner undoubtedly visited and sketched from. However, I was also taken by the number of times I saw ‘lines’ in the landscape. This fissure in a rock at Caley Crags I find intriguing. At the top of the crack you can see through to the sky, but lower down just darkness and its not clear if the line is just on the surface of the rock or has been filled in with stones falling (or placed?) into the gap.

So, a line in the landscape, formed naturally or through the intervention of people, but one without the artist’s hand. Maybe this rock is worth exploring with my vinyl line ‘drawn’ down the face. One to consider.

I often resort to square format and monochrome images when I’m capturing material to inform my art practice. Even though this is with a digital camera I find myself using the camera as if it were my old square format Lubitel film camera.
