Another example of the use of a strong, white line in a photographic image and, like some of Peter Downsbrough’s works, utilising a line that exists in the landscape.
It took me a while to work out that this line in Frank’s photograph is a painted white traffic line, one that exists in the city space. It looks so much like my vinyl white line that I have been placing in the landscape, but both do the same job. Creating energy and dynamism in the image. Cutting the image in halve and asking questions of the viewer about the space being looked at.
Frank’s image also has the added feature of a moment caught in time. One, solitary figure crossing the empty street and captured having just stepped over the line.
