Forest

I’ve been looking back at some of the group work with did on my MA to find content for a degree show catalogue I’m working on. A collaboration with one of the other MA students and one our our tutors. We’ve also had permission to use some of Ricky Adams photographs.

Anyway, I came across this work which I’d titled ‘Forest’. It is an entirely found image, with no intervention from me other than framing the picture.

The ‘Forest’ is in fact a section of skirting board in the MA studio that over the years has accumulated layers of paint, in Iines, running down to the floor.

One of my fellow students even wrote a whole essay about this ‘work’ and a piece she made on a new length of skirting board. I also did three linocut prints in black and white on some off-cuts of skirting board I had at home that were inspired by this object.

What I like about this image though is the simplicity of the form and the association the dripped paint Iines are given by assigning a title.
