Who decides? turns out to be quite a pertinent comment. As part of my MA Fine Art show in September 2024 I did a text piece on a billboard in Leeds. It was sited on the bridge support of a roundabout at one end of Wellington Street. As you can see from the image it said:

If you haven’t got anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.

To which a local street artist at some point in its two week stay tagged the words:

And who decides wots nice?

I was really pleased to get that direct feedback. I’d expected some tagging, but noting quite so philosophical.

So when the RA Summer Exhibition entries opened earlier this year with the theme ‘Dialogue’, this seemed like the perfect image. So I took a very low res phone image and turned it into a CMYK screenprint, A1 in size. I really felt this one had a chance of at least getting through the first shortlisting phase. Sadly, it didn’t.
