Geum rivale is a native British wildflower and one that was part of my journey into the world of fine art. However, it has taken me nearly three years from bumping into this plant on a bike ride from my home in Otley to Greenhow Hill in North Yorkshire. I think I was just waiitng for the right moment and the right idea. The moment was an exhibition opportunity I saw on Curator Space, the right idea was to build on the multi-layered screenprint I did of the shrub ‘Magnolia stellata’, a screenprint idea based on Andy Wharhol’s series of ‘Flower’ prints, prints that were based on a photograph he came across of hibiscus flowers.
Anyway, Geum rivale (also known as Water avens, Nodding avens, Drooping avens, Cure-all, Indian chocolate and Water flower) has finally made in into print with a large number of varied editions. I’m very pleased with how these works have come out. Image size 9.5cm x 14.5 cm. In other words, they are postcard sized, which is a whole other story.
