A long time ago I worked for the national charity, Epilepsy Action, based just up the road from me in Yeadon. I was Fundraising Manager and one of the fundraising events I set up was called National Doodle Day. The event was a joint effort with the charity Neurofibromatosis Association and it was their CEO at the time, Robert Tweedy who set the ball rolling. We’d met to talk about possible joint ventures and she said there must be away we can set up a simple fundraiser just using ‘a pen, a pound, some paper and a celebrity’. Three hours on the train back from London was enough time to formulate a plan and National Doodle Day was born.
This year it celebrated 21 years and I was lucky enough to be invited to the celebration event in London at the Crick Institute. It was a great event and a timely reminder why raising funds for this great charity is so needed and how it can make such a positive difference to the lives of people living with epilepsy.
And, to top it all, I was invited to contribute my own artwork for the National Doodle Day auction and, I’m pleased to say, my two screenprints both went under the hammer raising over £50.
